Recognizing the Pattern and Power in Randomness
What we call random is often God disrupting our routine to get our attention. Don’t dismiss the interruption—discern the intention.
If we’re being honest, most of us have been conditioned to ignore what doesn’t “fit.”
If it doesn’t align with our plans…
If it interrupts our schedule…
If it feels out of place or inconvenient…
We label it with one word: random.
Without realizing it, the moment we call something random, we give ourselves permission to dismiss it. But what if what we call random is actually intentional? Here’s the thing: We often view something as random when it appears to have nothing to do with where we’re going. Something that tends to happen out of the blue. It doesn’t match the vision we have for the day. Or it doesn’t fit the five-year plan. Or, it doesn’t align with what we think God is doing. We tend to scroll past it. Talk over it. We miss it.
But Scripture shows us something different.
In the scriptures, there was a man named Balaam, moving with his own agenda—until suddenly, the donkey that he was riding on started talking. Not metaphorically. Not symbolically. But, literally. It was a moment so random that it disrupted his logic. It was so unexpected that it demanded his attention. And yet, while it appeared to be random, it wasn’t. It was God interrupting his path because he was headed toward destruction.
Then there’s Moses. Just another day on the back stretch of the wilderness. As he is walking up the mountain to chase down another sheep. Something unexpected, something we would call random, caught his attention. He sees a bush on fire, but not burning up. He was confused because the bush was not being consumed by the fire. Friends, while this was probably the most random thing he’s ever seen in his life, let me suggest this to you: This was not random. This was a divine disruption designed to redirect his destiny?
Here’s what I want you to catch:
Randomness is often the language God uses when He wants to break through routine. Because routine can become a barrier. Monotony can dull our spiritual sensitivity. Familiarity can make us deaf to the voice of God. So, rather than competing with the noise that we entertain, He breaks through. He introduces something that doesn’t make sense. Something that doesn’t fit. Something that forces you to stop and say, “Wait… what was that?”
Let me say it like this:
God will often interrupt your life so that he can reveal the things that will give you life. Two things that God doesn’t play about is your life and your destiny.
Friends, think about your own life.
That unexpected conversation.
That delay you didn’t plan for.
That “coincidence” you couldn’t explain.
That nudge you almost ignored.
Let me suggest to you: This was probably not random. What if it was divinely placed within your day… to shift your direction, sharpen your awareness, or speak into your next season?
Here’s the challenge: Stop dismissing what disrupts you. Start discerning it. Now I am not saying everything is from God—but everything deserves your attention long enough to ask: “God, are You saying something through this? Because here’s the truth: We don’t miss God because He’s silent.
We miss Him because He doesn’t always speak in ways we expect.
